2D materials are elastic substancesthat can sustain high strain. While the response of these to spatially uniform strain is well studied, effects non-uniform understood much less. In this review, we examine two different materials, transition metal dichalcogenides and graphene, under First, analyze pseudo-magnetic fields formed in graphene subjected highly localized Second, discuss effect on excitons non-uniformly strained TMDC. We show that while transport or “funneling” relatively inefficient, a process, strain-related conversion trions dominant.
